CHINESE PROJECT “ONE BELT, ONE WAY”: POLITICAL ISSUES AND CHALLENGES

Abstract

In 2013, Chairman Xi Jinping  unveiled the “One Belt, One Way” initiative, emphasizing that it is necessary to transform world opportunities into Chinese opportunities, and Chinese opportunities into the world ones. Such a large-scale project covering a vast territory has a large number of accompanying challenges, problems and risks, including political, economic and cultural ones. In the article, the author explores the political risks that China may face in the process of “One Belt, One Way” project implementation. The related political risks include: political transparency of the participating countries,corruption, stability of political power, generational change in the political elite, compliance with various laws.
